Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit at Vatsalya Shishu Hospital provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for infants, children and adolescents with diseases of the digestive tract ( intestine, pancreas) and liver. Small children and adolescents have different spectrum of disease thus necessitating specialized care by pediatric Gastroenterologist and hepatologist.

The unit offers a diagnostic and endoscopic practice, including evaluation for liver transplantation in the paediatric age group.

The Unit provides Paediatric Endoscopy services which include:

Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy-

It is a diagnostic & therapeutic procedure used by the doctor to see inside the lining of your upper GI tract of the patient (Neonatal & Paediatric), using a flexible tube with a camera known as an endoscope. It is used to diagnose and, sometimes, treat conditions that affect the upper part of your digestive system.

Colonoscopy -

A colonoscopy is an endoscopic procedure performed by the doctors over the patient to detect abnormalities in the large intestine (colon) and rectum. A long, flexible tube known as colonoscope having a tiny video camera at the tip of it is inserted into the rectum. The camera allows the doctor to view the inside of the entire colon and help on detecting abnormalities and also treat many diseases like removal of Polyps, etc.

Dilatation Of Oesophageal/GI Stricture - The procedure is performed over a paediatric patient who has a narrowed oesophagus, pylorus (opening in the stomach) or any other part of the intestine. This procedure is performed  with a specialised balloon (CRE) or bougie.

Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG)- It is one of the most effective and safest ways to provide liquids, food, and medications directly into the stomach of the patient who has trouble swallowing.
